Spicee Vada


24 pcs Dukes Spicee Biscuits For the potato mixture:

  • 2 cups boiled potatoes
  • 2 tsp green chilli chopped
  • 2 tsp ginger chopped
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp chilli powder
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • I tsp oil
  • Salt to taste

For the batter:

  • 1 ½ cup chickpea flour (besan)
  • ½ tsp chilli powder
  • Salt to taste

To fry:

  • Oil

To garnish:

  • ¼ cup green chutney
  • ¼ cup tamarind sauce
  • 2 tbsp ready made chilli garlic powder or alternately chat masala.
  • Few fried curry leaves.

Preparation time

35 minutes


  1. Make a batter by mixing the chickpea flour, salt, chilli & water. Beat well for 5 mins to make the batter light.
  2. Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan, splutter the mustard seeds.
  3. Add the asafetida and the curry leaves. Put in the potatoes, chillies, turmeric, coriander powder, salt, lemon juice and mix well.
  4. Divide the potato mix  into 12. Take a spice biscuit, put one portion of the potato mix and put another spice biscuit on top[ like a sandwich.]
  5. Dip the biscuit potato stack in the batter and deep fry. Deep fry some curry leaves.
  6. Garnish with chili garlic powder, tamarind chutney, green chutney and fried curry leaves. Serve hot!
